The Weekly Predictor offered by Jamie Nye over at CFL.CA this week claims he is sniffing out an upset. That smell is just the putrid corpse of the Toronto Argonauts. Had it not been for the last minute of last year’s East Final, right now people would be talking about the failed experiment of bringing Jim Popp and Marc Trestman back together in Toronto, and just why the hell did they think Ricky Ray should still be playing football.
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS @ TORONTO ARGONAUTS
The Six Horsemen of the Apocalypse over at CFL.CA have all predicted a Tiger-Cats victory… so that just about does it for any chances Hamilton will win and close the gap with the Ottawa REDBLACKS! this week. Look for an inexplicable Hamilton implosion. The Six Horsemen have spoken!
However, if a CFL game is played in Toronto, and there is no one there to see it, did the Argonauts really win?
PICK: TORONTO ARGONAUTS
SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS @ WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
I have been waiting for the Roughriders to screw up for weeks now and they keep disappointing me. So… this is clearly, absolutely and undeniably the last opportunity for the Saskatchewan Roughriders to shit the bed. If they win this week, their bed-shitting opportunities dry up until the playoffs since it will be highly unlikely anyone will catch the Roughriders for second place in the West regardless of what the Roughriders do for their remaining two game.
I said a few weeks ago, after the Blue Bombers lost both the Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl, that they would bottom out and then subsequently resurrect their season, with a blow-out victory against the Roughriders this week. I got the first part right but it remains to be seen whether the Bombers can slow down this Roughriders locomotive. I still say the Blue Bombers will win this week, but it won’t be a blow-out, and it won’t be a bed-shitting either.
And if the Roughriders do win, well then I just don’t know what to think.
PICK: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
OTTAWA REDBLACKS! @ EDMONTON ESKIMOS
Look, Edmonton Eskimos, if that is your real name, it’s time to quit fooling around. You’ve had your fun, you’ve scared the crap out of your fan base, but it’s time to start winning again. If you lose here, that might be it for the season. So pull yourself together and win this thing.
I won’t be angry if you lose, just very, very disappointed.
PICK: EDMONTON ESKIMOS
BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS @ CALGARY STAMPEDERS
This is the game that Mr. Nye says will be an upset. No. This is the game that the British Columbia Lions return to No-Playoffs-ville. They got everyone excited for a few weeks, but it’s bye-bye time.
It will be a low-scoring affair, but the Calgary Stampeders don’t lose at home and the British Columbia Lions don’t win on the road. I don’t make the rules, folks, I just follow ‘em.
PICK: CALGARY STAMPEDERS
PS – As I sit here in the lounge at the Calgary Radisson Airport Hotel writing this post, I realize I should not have had broccoli for lunch.
