This week’s most important game is obviously Sunday’s rematch of the 2009 and 2010 Grey Cups.  And. We. Shall. Have. Our. Revenge!

I was actually hoping for an all-Roughrider Grey Cup this year, with Rider quarterback Kevin Glenn squaring off against Rider running back Jerome Messam.  Alas, it was not meant to be.  I still predict Messam will get to the big game, but barring a last minute trade and change in the CFL trade deadline rules, Glenn will be watching the game from the back office of his Tim Hortons.

In honour of the largely pointless nature of this week’s games, how about an apropos-of-nothing pointless political observation?  U.S. Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson kinda reminds me of former Alberta Conservative Member of Parliament Brent Rathgeber.  They both talk very calmly, very eloquently, with their eyes closed.  And they’re both from Melville, Saskatchewan.

British Columbia Lions at Calgary Stampeders

I see the Stampeders as being the 2015 equivalent of the 2010 Roughriders.  After appearing in the Grey Cup the year before, the 2010 Roughriders and the 2015 Stampeders ended up in second place in the west.  However, the 2010 Roughriders and the 2015 Stampeders were and are still the best teams in the west.  Hence, the Calgary Stampeders will beat the BC Lions, who only snuck into the playoffs due to the raged incompetence and terrible injuries of the three non-playoff CFL teams.

The problem for the Stampeders is that they only win Grey Cups in the years after the Roughriders appeared in the Grey Cup, so the Stampeders are doomed this year.  Doomed!  D-O-O-O-O-MED!!  Doomed.

But they’ll beat the Lions this week.

Chris Schultz says the Kevin Glenn trade “worked.”  Uhh, well… hmm.  I wonder what this season would have looked like if the trade had not “worked”?  Maybe the Alouettes folding and being replaced two seasons later by the Montreal Concorde?

Anyway, I cannot in good conscience make my last regular season pick this year against my beloved Roughriders.  Good luck on Sunday and, more importantly, good bye 2015 Roughriders, we hardly knew ye.  Hopefully we’ll never run into you again.  I look forward to meeting the 2016 Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders and their 2016 MOP quarterback Darian Durant.
